Alex and Jazz’s DIY garden wedding | fun wedding photographer

Wedding in the rain?

Picture this, an August weekend with a mixed bag of weather forecasted including showers, sun and clouds. A confusing mix, right? Well, despite the rain it was a BLOOMING beautiful wedding day. They chose ME as their fun wedding photographer and I had the most amazing time.

Meet Alex and Jazz (and their dog Rory), they organised the most amazing DIY wedding 2023 (you can have my word on that). They got married in their family church in Purley, Surrey. Wedding guests were greeted at the church by Alex, who was dressed in his Yorkshire Regiment uniform with incredibly shined shoes (hats off to you). Sunshine quickly turned into downpours whilst we awaited Jazz’s arrival at the church.

Jazz, our beautiful bride, arrived with her Dad at her side. She was dressed in her mum’s wedding dress - repurposed and stunning. Her garden-inspired wedding bouquet is full of beautiful bright flowers including pink gerberas, peach roses, thistle, statice and lilac Veronica (to name a few).  Can you guess I was a florist? And yes, I may be able to help you with your wedding flowers.

Following their church service, the wedding guests enjoyed nibbles in the church hall with music by the Yorkshire Regiment wind band. They even treated everyone to a sing-along of “Sweet Caroline”.

Alex, Jazz and I headed outside to capture the group photos with their pals and closest family members before taking a slow walk to their wedding reception.  Yes, A WALK.  This is why I loved this wedding, everything was nearby and their wedding guests were able to take a stroll together to Alex and Jazz’s parent’s house where the reception was being held.

If you are looking for DIY wedding inspiration then I would certainly suggest taking note of this wedding. As a wedding photographer and creative, I have to say, it was the best DIY wedding I have ever seen.  Better than some wedding venues which just goes to show how much effort had been put into the wedding planning.

Featuring pallet board signage (pallet wedding decor ideas eat your heart out), a hand-painted order of the day board, mixed vases full of garden flowers and foliage, a mirror table plan, multi-coloured pastel candle sticks, chalk board table names, and brightly coloured bunting throughout the tipis.

Their drinks reception as held in the front garden, with the guests being welcomed through to the rear garden following a receiving line. What a lovely way to ensure you have said hello to every one of your wedding guests.

I truly love DIY weddings and garden weddings.  It just goes to show that you can create a beautiful wedding day in the heart your own home.

P.s - if you need wedding guest entertainment for between courses, a quiz is totally the best idea ever.
