A Picture-Perfect DIY Vineyard Wedding Festival in Sussex
Hello, lovebirds and wedding enthusiasts! As an alternative wedding photographer based in the heart of Sussex, I’ve had the privilege of capturing some truly unique and breathtaking weddings. Today, I’m excited to share a recent experience that combined festival vibes, bold colours and the serene beauty of a vineyard. If you’re dreaming of an unforgettable celebration, keep reading for some inspiration from this DIY vineyard festival wedding in Sussex.
Lets skip to the very beginning… When you receive a wedding enquiry that describes their love for Wes Anderson, you know its going to be an epic and quirky wedding. The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of my favourite films for the colours, composition and directive style. I mean, who doesn’t love Wes Anderson? I knew I was the perfect alternative wedding photographer for this epic couple.
Mim and James got in contact following a referral from Hannah from wedding dress shop, Lush Curve Bridal, in Dorking. Following our little chat over zoom, I just knew that we were the right fit. Mim has a creative mindset and was so open to ideas including plans for their wedding pre-shoot. For their pre wedding photo shoot, we headed to Columbia Flower Market in East London. Oh my goodness, what a day. We had coffee, bought flowers and almost bought a 1950’s bicycle that both me and Mim still regret my decision in not buying.Their wedding was all that I expected it to be and more.
A beautiful outdoor alternative wedding
Nestled in the rolling hills of Sussex, this outdoor wedding venue, Bluebell vineyard provided a stunning backdrop for this alternative wedding. Imagine rows of lush vines, the sweet scent of grapes in the air, and the golden hues of a sunset over the countryside. The couple chose this location for its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a festival-style celebration.
Although I am a Guildford wedding photographer, as you know I am more than happy to travel. With the freedom to decorate to your own taste, Bluebell Vineyard was transformed into a colourful quirky space. With bold colours, bespoke details and a stunning floral arch.
Capturing the Magic: A Photographer’s Dream
As an alternative wedding photographer, this Sussex vineyard wedding was a dream come true. The natural light, the genuine joy on everyone’s faces, and the stunning scenery provided endless opportunities for capturing beautiful, candid moments. We headed into the vineyard for Mim and James’ couple shoot, which was, of course, inspired by Wes Anderson’s composition of square on images… its safe to say the creative spirit in me was living her best life.
The outdoor wedding ceremony was interrupted by a gaggle of geese flying over, creating as much noise as they could. I feel like they were sharing in the celebration of the wedding day but their timing was not on point.
Festival Vibes: Music, Dancing, and Fun
A festival wedding wouldn’t be complete without plenty of entertainment. This couple went all out, ensuring their guests had a blast from start to finish. From a beautiful wedding singer throughout the day to a live band in the evening allowing the guests to throw their bests moves under the glitter ball. What an epic end to an epic wedding.
Final Thoughts
This DIY vineyard festival wedding in Sussex was a testament to the beauty of personal touches and the joy of celebration. It was an honor to capture these memories as a wedding photographer in Sussex. If you’re planning an alternative wedding, take inspiration from this couple’s creativity and the stunning backdrop of a Sussex vineyard.
Until next time, happy planning!
