Lucy and Brophy: Alternative Surrey Wedding
A DIY Wedding Dream: Pinterest lovers eat your heart out…
Here we have THE most wonderful DIY wedding in the heart of Thursley, Surrey. You’ll find Thursley Village tucked away on the A3 between Milford and Hindhead. As an alternative surrey wedding photographer, there's nothing quite like the beauty and uniqueness of a DIY wedding.
Let me take you back to the 25th May 2024; a gorgeous wedding between Lucy and Chris (but they call him Brophy). Lucy and Brophy headed my way via my website and after a blooming lovely zoom call, I was booked to capture their wedding.
A Quaint and Quirky Wedding Venue: Thursley Villge Hall, Godalming
Thursley Village Hall is an absolute blank canvas. Decorating the hall with bunting and festival-style decorations can transform a simple community space into a vibrant and lively wedding venue perfect for celebrations. The hall was adorned with colourful bunting strung across the ceiling and along the walls, creating a cheerful canopy that instantly lifts the atmosphere. Incorporating elements like homemade banners, themed signage, and a photo booth area with playful props ensures that every corner of the hall gives a fun festival vibes.
The Vibe: Alternative wedding meets sophistication
From the moment I arrived at Lucy’s mums house, I could sense that this wedding was going to be a blast. Lucy and Brophy had a clear vision for their big day— a traditional church wedding ceremony followed by an alternative wedding reception that brought together their families and conveyed their love story.
Lucy’s dress was a beautiful, sleeveless, satin, A-line wedding dress which she later discovered had POCKETS. YES. POCKETS. Oh, how she rocked her dress with such class and swagger. Her bridesmaids were in mismatched dresses which I am very on board with this season. Genuinely the kindest souls you could meet.
Now onto Brophy and his gents… Black tie but dont be shy would be the running theme for them. What a bunch of dapper chaps.
The cutest details:
One thing I truly adore as an alternative surrey wedding photographer is photographing the small details. Every wedding is unique and every wedding has a set of stunning details to capture. Lucy’s mum created her beautiful wedding bouquet as well as her bridesmaids. A flower arch greeted the guests into the reception venue, wheelbarrows cradled bottles of beer, colourful paper lanterns filled the marque and hay bales awaited tired feet. A stunning array of quirky decorations.
Capturing the Magic
Throughout the wedding day, I had the privilege of capturing beautiful moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. From the tender glances and joyful laughter to the heartfelt vows and exuberant celebrations. Every image tells a story of love and happiness. We were blessed with stunning light, which was used creatively to create stunning portraits of Lucy and Brophy. With a guest count of nearly 200, my mission was to photograph everyone there. Mission successful.
Final Thoughts

Whether it's a DIY wedding or something entirely different, capturing your little love story in a way that reflects your personality and style is the aim of the game.
